Centrifugal industrial process fans play major roles in a variety of industries and
industrial processes. The cement industry is a big user of the industrial centrifugal
fans for mechanizing the industrial processes. This industry primarily implements
heavy-duty fans dedicated to one of the two purposes: supplying air or removing
exhaust gases and handling materials.
Storage And Grinding Of Coal
Industrial centrifugal fans are used in the process of grinding coal to a fine powder
and then storing the powder. A wagon is used to transport the coal hopper, from
where it is conveyed to the mill hopper using conveyor belts where the fans are
needed. After the coal is grounded into fine coal powder, a circulating air fan collects
it and delivers it to a bag filter. Again, fans are necessary to vent out the dust-free air
after the extraction of coal dust.
Grinding Mills
Raw mills come in 2 types: ball mills and vertical roller mills. After the raw materials
necessary for producing cement are fed in through the mill inlet, they undergo
several processes such as drying, grinding, and separation. In the case of a vertical
roller mill (VRM), all these processes are integrated into 1 unit. An exhaust fan
maintains the flow of materials and the hot gas inside this mill. A suction vent fan is
then used to collect the dust particles while the exhaust fan feeds its outlet gas into
an ESP.
Kilns
Pulverized coal is pumped to the kiln via a feed pipe. A fan known as a preheater fan
plays a role in the kilns, after the burning zone of the kiln produces a hot gas, the
preheater fan sends out this gas. After the heating process, the preheater material is
discharged to the inlet of the kiln.
Coolers
The hot cement clinker in the kiln needs to be cooled and solidified. The cooling fans
play a role here, by blowing atmospheric air in through the holes in the cooler plates
to cool the hot clinker. A part of this air is then diverted to the preheater fan to be
used as secondary air for burning coal inside the kiln. Some of the air is used to dry
coal inside the coal mill. The remaining air is extracted by an induced draught fan to
outside via pollution control equipment.
Cement Crushers
Clinker and gypsum are the prime materials needed to manufacture Ordinary
Portland Cement, abbreviated as OPC. Belt conveyors and electronic weigh feeders
pour the materials in necessary quantities and ratio into the mill. Grinding media
balls are then used to grind these materials inside the cement mill. The friction of
the clinker and the grinding media balls create heat inside the mill due to friction.
The coarse materials and fine materials are then separated and this is where a
recirculating fan is used. After this, pneumatic pumps, belt bucket elevators, and air
slides convey the fine powder to the cement silos. The coarse materials are sent
back into the cement mill inlet where it is ground again. The bag filters and ESPs
inside the mill come with fans that suck out the gas. This gas then undergoes a de-
dusting process, after which it is released back into the atmosphere.
Conclusion
Centrifugal fans play key roles in the process of manufacturing cement and several
types of fans are used. Each type of centrifugal industrial process fan has its purpose
and very specific role in the cement manufacturing process.
