RNI Registration is still a widely used search term, but the regulatory authority is now the Press Registrar General of India (PRGI), formerly known as the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI). The present framework operates under the Press and Registration of Periodicals Act, 2023, which came into force on March 1, 2024. Applications and related services are handled through the Press Sewa Portal.
