Batteries Testing
▪ Battery/cell is one of the most critical source of power in most of
the electronics products use widely. These play a very important
role in product designing and also on product life. These are very
useful and in the same way very dangerous if not use as per
technical requirements and instruction.

PURPOSE OF A
BATTERY
▪ The primary purpose of an battery is to provide a source of
electrical power for starting and for electrical demands that
exceed generator output. The battery is a voltage stabilizer
because it acts as a reservoir where large amounts of current
(amperes) can be removed quickly during starting and replaced
gradually by the generator during charging.
▪ The battery must be in good (serviceable) condition before the
charging system and the cranking system can be tested
Battery / Cell Standards
▪ IS 16046-1
▪ IS 16046-2
▪ IEC 62133-1
▪ IEC 62133-2
▪ UN38.3
▪ IEC 60896
▪ IS 16047
▪ IS 16270

How Battery Works
▪ A fully charged lead-acid battery has a positive plate of lead
dioxide (peroxide) and a negative plate of lead surrounded by a
sulphuric acid solution (electrolyte). Difference in potential
(voltage) between lead peroxide and lead in acid is
approximately 2.1 volts. During Discharging The positive-plate
lead dioxide ( PbO 2 ) combines with the SO 4 from the
electrolyte and releases its O 2 into the electrolyte, forming H 2
O . The negative plate also combines with the SO 4 from the
electrolyte and becomes lead sulphate ( PbSO 4 ).
Why Test Battery
System
There are two main reasons to test a battery:
1- To insure the supported equipment is adequately backed up.
2- To prevent unexpected failures.
Why Choose US
▪ URS Lab is NABL Accredited as per ISO 17025 for Electrical
(Household, Luminaries, Batteries & Environmental, etc.),
Electronics (IT, Audio Video, UPS & EMI/EMC, etc.) and
Mechanical (Automotive & Toys) Testing.
