Portable cut-off wheels are one of the most 
commonly used bonded abrasive materials. It can 
be found in a variety of places, from metal 
fabrication shops to private garages; when used 
properly, these wheels are extremely secure. 
However, misuse and abuse of those wheels have 
resulted in injuries. 
Tips on How to Use Cut-off Wheels
• Check the machine's speed and write down the maximum 
running speed.
• Install proper flanges on compact cut-off wheels.
• Place the wheel guard between the operator and, as a result, 
the steering wheel.
• Until cutting, run the wheel for one minute in a safe area (such 
as under a bench).
• Until cutting, secure the workpiece at both ends.
• The cut-off wheel can only be used for cutting, not for grinding 
or deburring.
