 The phrase “engine coolant” refers to a 
broad category of fluids used to cool down 
engines. The radiator dissipates heat from 
the internal combustion engine through 
the engine coolant, a crucial component of 
all HDV engines. It keeps the engine from 
overheating and breaking down as a 
result. Engine protection against oxidation, 
corrosion, corrosion pitting, scaling, and 
clogging is ensured thanks to the 
coolants chemical composition.
THE COOLANT’S 
COMPOSITION
 Deionised water, glycol (often ethylene glycol or propylene glycol), 
and chemical additives are the primary components of coolant. It is 
your responsibility to make an informed decision about the kind of 
coolant you use. The decision is based on the engine’s frequency 
and exposure to various environmental and temperature 
conditions. An ideal coolant does not freeze even in freezing 
climates to avoid boiling off into the atmosphere owing to 
overheating. Insufficient cooling is to blame for at least 40% of 
engine issues.
COOLANT TYPES:
 Depending on the use and 
application, there are at least 
three kinds of coolants used 
in heavy-duty vehicle engines.

COOLANT IN THE OLD-FASHIONED STYLE
 Corrosion-inhibiting coolants protect metals like steel, aluminium, 
and copper against corrosion when used as standard or 
conventional coolants. This coolant chemical is excellent for heavy-
duty engines since it covers the wet sleeve liner against corruption. 
Green or purple are the most common colours for these 
refrigerants. The coolant’s corrosion inhibitors degrade quickly, and 
as a result, their usefulness is limited.
COOLANT FOR OAT (OUTDOOR AIR TREATMENT) 
SYSTEMS
 Organic Acid Technology (OAT) is a silicate-free and long-lasting 
coolant. The carboxylate acid corrosion inhibitors, employed in 
these fluids instead of conventional ones, degrade at a much slower 
pace. Supplemental Coolant Additives do not need to be refilled 
regularly, and one may last the engine’s lifespan with only one refill. 
They’re usually red or orange, depending on the kind. In addition, it 
protects metal superbly at high temperatures.
HYBRID COOLANT TYPES AND APPLICATIONS
 OAT corrosion inhibitor technology is 
used with conventional corrosion 
inhibitor technology in this coolant 
technology. Yellow and red are the 
most common colours for this kind 
of coolant.
 Coolant filters, which are separate from 
the coolants themselves, are part of the 
automobile system and help keep the 
coolants clean by removing pollutants 
from the outside. They’re also utilised to 
replenish the coolant’s exhausted supplies 
by adding Radiator Cleaning Chemicals
 like SCA. Only buy filters from well-known 
and certified automobile filter 
manufacturers if you want the best 
solutions for your engine.
