Minerals are naturally formed materials that have a chemical composition and a crystalline structure. They also
have an ordered atomic arrangement with a definite chemical formula. There are three different types of
minerals which are: metallic, crystal, and organic. Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals on earth and is in
fact the second most abundant mineral, after feldspar. Quartz can be classified based on its origin but there will
always be some impurities within the atomic lattice which gives rise to a particular color displayed.
The presence of silicon and oxygen in silica makes it a good semiconductor which is the reason for its use in
making solar cells, used in photovoltaic energy. Quartz is an important mineral of great variety in the earth’s
crust. The word quartz was used during 1500 to refer to rock crystal. This was probably because of its
transparency of appearance when it comes to pure quartz. Other minerals when they are pure have a similar
appearance but when impurities are present, the appearance will change.
Since quartz is a hard mineral, it is used in a wide variety of industries. For example, glass and window panes are
made from it. Quartz is also used in the manufacture of electronic devices, such as thermometers, watches and
computer clocks. Since quartz can be made from silica sand which is abundant on earth and easy to mine, it
makes it an affordable mineral for industries. Quartz is one of the hardest naturally occurring minerals and hence
can not be corroded easily. The crystalline structure of Quartz makes it very difficult to penetrate and so it can
resist acid attacks. Chemically, Quartz is silicon dioxide (SiO2). It is chemically stable and does not react with other
substances and chemicals. Its low water solubility makes it almost completely resistant to corroding, making it an
ideal product for swimming pools and spas.
Quartz is the most valuable and popular industrial mineral. Quartz is used in the abrasives industry where its
hardness and durability offer exceptional performance. We are top Quartz Powder Exporter In India.
