Scintillator is a device that emits a brief pulse of light when excited by ionizing radiation and total energy in pulse of light is directly proportional to energy of incident ionizing radiation. This device allows scientist to detect particles as well as other forms of radiation and smallest amount of scintillation can trigger a signal in photo detectors attached to edge of scintillator.
