Historically, Easter baskets were given to children on Easter Sunday. This tradition dates back to the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility, Eostre, who was depicted cradling a woven basket in the crook of her arm in ancient art. The imagery has remained, and is still celebrated today.
