Testing Standards
 Fire door testing follows rigorous internationally

 NFPA 252 (National Fire Protection Association)

 These standards evaluate doors under controlled

simulate real-world fire scenarios.
Testing Process
 The comprehensive testing process includes:
 Fire Endurance Test: The door assembly is installed in a test furnace and 
exposed to temperatures that follow a standardized time-temperature curve. 
During this test, the door must maintain its integrity without developing 
holes or gaps.
 Hose Stream Test: Following the fire endurance test, doors are subjected to 
a high-pressure water stream to evaluate structural integrity after thermal 
stress.
 Smoke Control Testing: Measures the door's ability to prevent smoke 
leakage, crucial for life safety during evacuations.
 Positive Pressure Testing: Simulates the pressure differentials that occur 
during actual fires, ensuring doors can withstand these conditions.
Rating Classifications
 Fire doors receive ratings based on their performance 
during testing:
 20-minute doors (smoke barriers)
 45-minute doors (stairwells and corridors)
 60-minute doors (vertical shafts)
 90-minute doors (exit enclosures)
 3-hour doors (severe hazard areas and fire walls)
Certification Process
After successful testing, certification bodies 
issue labels or marks that must be permanently 
affixed to the door. These labels indicate:
Fire resistance rating
Testing standard used
Name of certifying organization
Serial number for traceability
Ongoing Compliance
 Certification isn't a one-time event. Fire rated doors 
require:
 Regular inspection and maintenance
 Proper installation by qualified personnel
 Approved hardware that maintains the door's rating
