Lip Blushing: An ultimate Guide to Lip Tattoos!
The idea of a lip tattoo may seem intimidating and harsh, but the techniques in the PMU
industry have come a long way. The lip tattoo of today is soft and subtle, one that emulates the
look of a sheer gloss.
This technique is often referred to as blush lips or velvet lips. With this technique, we are able
to create the illusion of fuller lips without tattooing outside of your natural lip line.
What To Expect At Your Lip Tattoo Appointment
The process begins with pout prep. Initially, a topical anesthetic is applied to pre-numb the lips
for 20 minutes. Afterward, the shape of the “new” lips is drawn so that you can evaluate and
make any changes.

At Bella Ink PMU we customize and mix colors for each client after assessing their natural
base color. We generally advise the clients to keep the colors close to their natural range in
order to keep it as realistic as possible.
How Long Does It Last?
Typically, lip blushing lasts between two to three years and will gradually lighten and fade
over time, until your lips slowly return to their natural shade. So, you can expect your lips to
look far lighter after two years than they will after six months, which is why we recommend
yearly touch-ups to prolong the lip color you want.

How To Prepare For Your Lip Tattooing Appointment
If you have a history of cold sores, ask your doctor to prescribe an anti-viral medication. The tattooing process
will likely cause your body to have a cold sore during the healing process which will be painful and won’t allow
the color to heal properly.
So it is very important to take the antivirals prior to your appointment. You must also be four weeks past any
filler or botox treatments around the area.
Will Getting A Lip Tattoo Hurt?
A lip tattooing sounds painful — especially for someone who might be looking for an alternative to getting
injected with filler. At Bella Ink permanent makeup we use two topical numbing agents that make the process
tolerable.

Aftercare And Healing
The procedure takes about two hours to complete, after which your lips will be swollen
— it is a tattoo, after all — so you can ice them if necessary. Over the next week, your
lips will start to heal, meaning they will start to get crusty and peel.
Initially, the color will be super vibrant, almost like a lip stain. It is important not to be
misled by the immediate ‘after’ results. The immediate results look nothing like when
the lips are healed. Once healed, the color fades approximately 30–50 percent and will
blend in with the natural lip color.
