Glass Is Everywhere! Difficult to be without it
GLASS IS EVERYWHERE!
DIFFICULT TO BE
WITHOUT IT
When you stop to think about it, glass is an
amazing product. You can do so much with it.
We use it in windows because it stops the
weather — heat, rain, cold — entering a
building, but you can see exactly what is
going on outside because it is clear.
We use it in containers. Unlike tins, you can see exactly what is inside a glass
bottle or any other type of container. However, that is when you use clear glass.
You can also have glass which is coloured, and indeed the colour can be so
deep that you cannot see what is in the container.
Glass is 100% reusable. When you empty a glass container, whether it is a
bottle, a drinking glass, or anything else, you can refill it. It is also recyclable.
Glass is heat resistant. You can put containers in the microwave, oven and
dishwasher. Glass doesn’t absorb any chemicals or microscopic particles, so
once you have used a container you can simply wash it up and use it again. You
can’t do that with a drinks can.
You Can Use Glass To Make Glasses
You can use glasses to make glasses! The sort that is used to improve vision.
Millions of people would be severely restricted in what they could do if it wasn’t
for glasses or contact lenses.
Spray a mirror paint on to glass and it becomes a mirror. Now you can see
yourself in it when you look at it. We could go on. And on, and on, and on!
From a purely practical view, glass has so many benefits, but it is also a great
product that can be used to produce amazing-looking drinks glasses, carafes,
decanters, flower vases, beer tankards, and so on.
You can also add lead to glass which will result in lead crystal glass which is
absolutely stunning in appearance. So much so that you can
produce engraved crystal glass with astounding patterns on it. In fact, you
can engrave anything that you wish on it — your company logo, a name, date,
country, a poem — anything at all.
There are several different ways of creating engraved crystal glass, such as
using laser light, diamond point engraving which involves a tool which can be
used to engrave by hand or machine, etching using acid, rotary engraving
using a tool that is useful for curved surfaces, and even sandblasting a pattern
on to the glass!
And, of course, glass is everywhere. Never does a day go by without you using
glass in some form or another.
