Reliance and BP starts gas production from Asia's deepest project.
RELIANCE AND BP STARTS GAS PRODUCTION
FROM ASIA'S DEEPEST PROJECT
INTRODUCTION
The R-Cluster, a high water gas field in the KG D6 block off the East Coast of India,
began manufacturing from Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) and BP Plc on Friday.

DEVELOPMENT IN ASIA
The field was originally supposed to begin development in June, and was deemed the
deepest offshore gas field in Asia with a water depth of more than 2000 metres, but the
COVID-19 pandemic postponed such schemes.

COMBINED INVESTMENT
In June 2017 RIL and it’s partner, London-based BP, reported a combined investment of
€40,000 in three gas discovery sets to reverse the output of the KG D6 block flagging.
There are R-Clusters, MJ fields and Satellite Clusters.

R-CLUSTER
The first to come on line is the R-Cluster. RIL said that the combined clusters are
estimated to meet 15% of India's demand for gas by 2023.

GREENER GAS ECONOMY
This is a significant breakthrough for a safer and greener gas economy in India's energy
environment.

MANUFACTURE GAS
RIL plan to manufacture gas and fulfil the growing cleaner energy needs of the region,
thanks to our deep-water infrastructure in the Krishna Godavari Basin.

STAKEHOLDER
In the KG block D6, RIL is the operator having 66.67% stake, and ventures will use the
current hub facilities. BP has the remainder.

EXPECTED OUTCOME
The output of normal 12.9 million cubic metre per day is expected to hit the R-Cluster
by 2021.
This start-up is another example of how our partnership with Reliance can best help
India meet its rapidly expanding energy requirements.

FUTURE ENERGY BALANCE
The three new Kg D6 ventures would help the country's push to shape and develop its
future energy balance if India's own manufacturing of cleaner burning gas achieves a
large portion of its energy demand.

FUTURE PROJECT
The next project is expected to come to light in 2021, followed by the MJ in 2022 and is
expected to generate peak gas from all three fields by 2023 at a pace of about 30
mmscmd, or around 25% of the domestic gas outputs of India, which helps minimise the
country's reliance on imported gas.
