Electronics don't just disappear when they stop working — they pile up in godowns, get sold to kabadiwalas, or end up in landfills. A large chunk of this waste is still handled by unlicensed scrap dealers who strip devices for copper and gold using open-flame burning or acid washing. It's cheap, it's fast, and it's dangerous — for the workers doing it and for the soil and groundwater around them.
