food or beverage, has to be checked and testing by a food product testing 
lab, before it makes its way to the shelf of the supermarket.

 Detailed Testing
In this food product testing, every bit of the product is tested. Right from 
the ingredients, to the preservatives, to the containers in which it is 
preserved in. this is to rule out the possibility of any kind of contaminant or 
toxin in the food. They also check for the presence of heavy metals in food 
and the amount that it is present in. They also do something called the 
preservative efficacy test, in order to check the working of the preservatives 
on the food.

As a consumer, one should always check that back of the product for the 
ingredients and nutrition. Along with this, make sure you also check for the 
manufacturing and the expiration date or the use before message printed, 
especially in case of easily perishable goods such as milk. Though the 
producers take care from their end to provide you with quality and safe 
products, you need to do a check from your end too.
