When it comes to packaged food, there are a lot of rules and

While  pesticides  maybe  profitable  for  the  plants,  they 
certainly aren’t for humans. Even if a little bit of the pesticide 
is  consumed  by  a  human,  the  repercussions  could  be 
catastrophic.  In  some  cases,  it  can  even  be  fatal.  Therefore, 
here  arises  the  need  to  test  the  food  from  the  stage  of  raw 
material itself. If any kind of pesticide residue is found in the 
food  sample,  then  there  is possibility  that  the entire batch of 
the product may get rejected.

Finding Metals In Food
Another  important  reason  to  test  the  food  sample  before 
sending  it  to  shelves  is  to  find  any  kind  of 
heavy metals in food.  While  some  metals  in  appropriate 
proportions might be good for  the human body’s growth and 
nourishment,  some  metals  certainly  aren’t.  For  example, 
having a good amount of iron and calcium in the food is good 
for our blood and bones  respectively. But presence of metals 
like mercury, will be fatal.

Hence,  testing for heavy metals  in  food  is one of  the various 
tests  that  a  food  sample  has  to  go  through  before  it  reaches 
your nearest supermarket. This does not  limit  to  just  the  first 
launch of the product. It is a process that needs to be done on a 
regular  basis, maybe monthly on once  in  two months. Every 
big batch of the product needs to go through these tests so as 
to  ensure  the  safety  of  consumers  of  packaged  food  and 
beverages.
