Common reasons behind using Verify and 
Rebuild in QuickBooks
• If you're using QuickBooks Online, Verify and Rebuild are not available to you. 
Instead, you'll need to use the Error Resolution feature in QuickBooks Online.
• Before you can use Verify and Rebuild, you'll first need to open the file that you 
want to check for errors. Then, click the Verify button in the dialog box that 
appears.
• In the next dialog box, QuickBooks will check the file for errors. If any are found, 
QuickBooks will offer options for resolving them.
• If the file is successfully checked for errors, you'll then need to rebuild it. To do 
this, click the Rebuild button.
• If either of these steps fails, or if you don't have access to QuickBooks Desktop, 
you may be able to resolve the issue using one of our online resources.

QuickBooks Desktop can help you verify and rebuild data files.

To verify and rebuild data files in QuickBooks 
Desktop:
• In the QuickBooks Desktop window, click File.
•  In the File menu, click Verify and Rebuild Data File.
•  In the Verify and Rebuild Data File dialog box, 
select the data file you want to verify or rebuild. (If 
you don't see the Verify and Rebuild Data File 
dialog box, your computer is not set up to work 
with QuickBooks.)
•  Click OK to start the verification or rebuilding 
process.
•  When the verification or rebuilding process is 
complete, you can close the QuickBooks Desktop 
window.
