The basic mechanism is color filtering:
• The red lens blocks red light from the red-tinted image and lets through portions 
of the cyan (blue + green) image.
• The cyan lens blocks cyan (blue + green) light and lets through red-tinted 
components.
• The result is that each eye sees a different view (left vs. right), and the brain
