 In rural areas, the per capita consumption of eggs is only 7.7 per 
annum in comparison to 17.8 per annum in the urban areas.

Chicken Breeds
             A wide variety of breeds are used for commercial production of eggs and meat.
 These include:
 Commercial broiler strains:-  Hubbard, 
Lohman, Anak 2000, Avian -34, Cobb, etc.
  Commercial layer strains:-  Bowans, BV-
300, Bowans, Hyline, Dekalb Lohman etc.
Feed
  It is important that the feed used for 
large-scale poultry farming is rich in 
protein and other nutrients such as zinc, 
phosphorous, manganese, magnesium, 
etc. 
  The feed must also contain adequate 
vitamins such as vitamin C, D, E, and K.
Housing
  In case of large-scale poultry farming, 
coops, and cages are used for keeping 
the poultry birds.
  A chicken barn in such cases is 
usually about 66 feet wide by 500 or 
600 feet long and houses around 
30,000 birds.
  Separate breeder houses may have 
hens that lay eggs where they are 
incubated and hatch after about 21 
days Chickens are sent to market 
when they are 32 to 63 days old.
  This mainly depends on the size of the 
bird.

 Feeders, incubators, laying nests and egg 
handling nests are some of the common

 Many large scale farmers are turning to solar 
power, changing their lights over to LEDs, 
harvesting rainwater, or utilizing fans to 
circulate air to ensure the comfort of 
chickens.
