foliated metamorphic rock composed

beach, river bed or desert. Over time, 
these sand grains are compressed to 
form sandstones. If the sandstones are 
buried more deeply beneath the layer of 
rocks, they lose their structure and fuse 
due to heat and pressure forming dense 
and strong rocks, called quartzite.
Quartzite is usually light or grey colored because of 
quartz sand which is usually lighter. Some stones 
have hues of green, blue, or ion-red due to the 
minerals carried by the groundwater. Van Gogh and 
Azul Macaubas are varieties of quartzites with 
striking colours.
Quartzite is one of the most physically durable and 
chemically resistant rocks found on the planet. On 
Mohs hardness scale, quartzite gets a number 
seven (10 being the hardest on a scale of 1-10)
