Granite stone - A New trendsetter in Architecture
Granite stone: A New trendsetter in
Architecture
Granite is a common type of felsic intrusive igneous or metamorphic
rock primarily composed of feldspar, quartz and lesser amount of dark
minerals. It has this coarse-grained like structure thereby the name
granite which in fact comes from the Latin word ‘granum’ meaning a
grain. Comprising almost a major portion of the Earth’s crust, this rock
is created by cooling down of magma. The vast proportions of granite
are in pink, white and grey depending upon their mineralogy.
Granite stones are mined from many queries located throughout the
world; this yields a huge colour palette for these stones. There are
more than 200 distinct shades of granite available in India.
India is the fifth-largest producer of granite
in the world and the reserves indicate there
is more upside to it. An estimate of 37
million cubic metres of granite reserves are
available in India. Andhra Pradesh,
Jharkhand, Karnataka, Orrisa, Tamil Nadu
are the states with the majority of reserves
followed by Bihar, Gujrat, Rajasthan and
West Bengal. The history of Granite Mining
dates back to the 11th century. Huge
volumes of granite have been used in
Indian architecture mainly in the Hindu
temples adding to the beauty and grandeur
of these temples.
Granites are really massive, hard and tough; they lack any internal structure that
makes them the widely used stone for construction throughout history. In
recent times, granite has become popular due to its resistance to heat, water,
pressure and low maintenance. The Indian granite industry has gained much
importance in recent times. Granite is used in buildings, monuments and other
exterior projects. In indoor architecture projects, granites are mainly used to
create solid slab countertops in the kitchen or workstations in office space.
Granite tiles are used to create sinks, backsplash, floors, wall panels and
elevated counters.
Granite is a distinctive material used to create impressions of elegance
and quality in the high lustre space. Nothing is comparable with the
natural beauty of real stones and granites have that timeless aura and
attraction. The Indian Granites display gorgeous aesthetics in kitchens
and bathrooms taking it to a whole new level and making it visually
appealing and making it the centerpiece of the room.
