Abrasive blasting, also known as sandblasting, is a method where a 
medium is used to help smooth or polish a hard texture. Rust and 
corrosion are common pestilences in a world full of machinery and 
metal parts. Luckily, abrasive blasting is a quick and effective way to 
get these metal parts working and looking their best. This 
technique can also be used to prepare surfaces for repainting.
Abrasive blasting, as the names indicate, is a process wherein an 
abrasive material (referred to as medium) is used to blast through a 
surface in order to smooth it or remove impurities. A significant 
amount of pressure is used to squeeze the grit and cause the blast. 
The amount of pressure used usually determines how quickly the 
process goes and the reliability of results.
Silicon Dioxide or Silica Sand:
Ordinary sand, also known as silica or quartz, is 
referred to as silicon dioxide. Silica Sandblasting was a 
popular method of removing impurities from surfaces 
because sand particles are approximately the same size 
and have sharp edges, creating this type of grit efficient 
in abrasive blasting.
Soda:
Soda sandblasting is the process of blasting with baking 
soda or bicarbonate of soda. Soda is used as an 
abrasive to remove rust from metals without damaging 
the metal beneath the rough surface. Soda is also an 
excellent grit for use on delicate materials that may be 
damaged by harder abrasives.

Steel Grit:
Steel grit is used as an abrasive in this process to 
remove paint and rust from steel metals. Steel is used 
to create a smooth finish. Steel grit is frequently 
preferred due to its ability to cut quickly.
Glass Bead
Glass bead sandblasting is best for a matte and satin 
finish because it contains very fine materials that polish 
the surface of the material being sandblasted. Cabinets 
are frequently subjected to this type of abrasive 
blasting.

Bristle Blasting
There is no separate medium used in this type of 
abrasive blasting. Steel wire bristles are instead rotated 
on a surface. This spinning action helps in the removal 
of impurities, resulting in a smooth surface. This 
method is frequently used to clean corrosion metal 
surfaces.
