Ohio has been making slow progress toward meeting its statewide recycling goals. According to a 
10-year review conducted by GT Environmental Inc., an environmental consulting firm, statewide 
recycling rates have increased slightly from 2005 to 2014 from 25.5% to approximately 
27.8%.However, industrial rates over this same time span have slightly decreased from around 
56% in 2005 to 50.4% in 2014. The 2001 updated “State Solid Waste Management Plan” set the 
industrial goal for 66% and the overall statewide goal for 50% reduction/recycling by 2005. 
Unfortunately, neither of these goals were met. Of the total percent of materials recycled statewide 
only 5% included plastic and this number dropped even lower in the industrial sector to a mere
