Flooding Your Crawl Space
ELIMINATE STANDING WATER
Once you see that the crawl space is
flooded, do not try to save anything, as
the mold and mildew will start to grow
immediately after the water enters the soft
material used for insulation and flooring.
If crawl space is filled due to broken pipes,
contact your plumber to fix it as soon as
possible. The plumber's knowledge in
dealing with flooded crawl spaces will help
prevent further damage such as mold and
mildew growth or sewer problems.

CLEAN UP DEBRIS AND INSULATION
Once all of the standing water has been
removed, sweep out dirt and other debris
using a broom, which should be done
before there are signs of mold growth.
Scrub the floor with water and vinegar
mixed in equal parts, since this has been
known to kill mold from growing. Even if
there are no visible signs of mold now it's a
good idea to kill any spores that might be
present.

ENSURE THAT THE AFFECTED AREAS ARE
VENTILATED WELL
Take away anything that is blocking vents
and ensure that these open up towards a
natural breeze outside your house this will
help cleanse the air inside the home from
contamination and also prevent mold and
mildew from developing. If there are any
signs of growth, have them cleaned using
a mixture of water and household bleach
so small pockets don't develop throughout
the house, which will be much harder to
eradicate.

FLOODING YOUR CRAWL SPACE
Although that doesn't seem to be the case,
flooding your crawl space can do more
damage than you think. If you are having
this problem, deal with Flood damage
immediately and get rid of the standing
water using a sump pump before the mold
starts to grow again. Replace insulation, get
rid of any debris on the floor, ensure proper
ventilation and talk to your insurance
company for more advice on what to do
next.
