Maintaining your central AC’s performance requires regular care, particularly for the
condenser unit coil, but establishing a suitable schedule can be puzzling.
Last time, I talked about How To Clean Your Central AC Condenser Unit Coil. I
immediately realized that I’ll have to do a follow up on the “when” part. It is not enough
to know how to clean the unit. You also must know when is the right time for the
cleaning and how much effort & time should you put on it.
How Often Should You Clean Your Central AC Condenser
Unit Coil
I can sum up this content by simply tell you to clean your Air Conditioner condenser unit
coil once a year. But that’s the easy way.
Yes, ideally once a year is enough to keep your HAVC system working. But only if you
keep doing it from the day you bought your air conditioning unit.
On the other hand, if you haven’t taken care of the unit from day one, you might need to
clean it more often.
Note that, if your unit is set up in a place where cottonwood tree or dandelions naturally
occur, you might need to clean them more than once a year since they are the main
culprit behind clogging.
But if you are super lazy, you can get it clean every time you need AC repair. This way,
you don’t have to open the unit for later and you can also let the professionals handle
the matter.

Ideally, cleaning the outdoor unit should take about an hour. Bur feel free to take your
time if you are new at this. 2-3 hours isn’t a big deal when you are saving hundreds and
thousand from AC services & repair for the long run.
Once you are done with the outdoor unit, the indoor part should take more than an hour
or so.
That’s about it for today.
