Safety in the workplace is a crucial factor for businesses & employees alike. Most

devices to safeguard the workplace. Unfortunately, this seldom covers the safety of Lone
Workers.
They are employees that work away from physical supervision. These jobs, while important
to the organization, puts these workers at serious risk of accidents. The scale of the event
might be small, but what elevates the problem is the absence of people around to help
them.
Active Track by Guard Patrol Products
Active Track is an advanced device produced to aid Lone workers who carry out their job
away from the eyesight of others. It enables real-time monitoring and has supporting
features like two-way communication and a panic button to minimize the risk these workers
face.
The hand-held device has four buttons—GPS, Call me, Read Checkpoint, & Panic
Button, placed at an optimum distance for easy use. Its internal quad-band GSM/
GPRS can house a special roaming SIM that connects to the strongest mobile signal
in the area & give clear calls between the lone worker and the operator.
Let’s dive deeper into how Active Track increases lone worker safety.
Communication Plan
A communication plan is the best way to avoid possible accidents from getting
worse. The active track has two-way communication that one can set up between
the operator and the lone worker.
This plan requires any of them to call and check-in with the other after a set interval
of time (example: every 30 mins). The duration between each consecutive call
depends on the type of work they are doing and should be planned so that it won’t
affect the performance of the worker. Each call would be a confirmation that
everything is proceeding as expected.
GPS Tracking
It is important to know where lone workers are at all times due to work & safety
reasons.
The in-built GPS of the active track allows the operator to track them at all times.
The GPS receiver allows tracking using satellite-based positioning technology when
outdoors. This switches to AGPS when the lone worker goes indoors. This technology
uses the triangulated information from nearby cell towers to get an accurate
location. The lone worker can also manually use the GPS button on the device to
send a text alert to the operator with their current coordinates.
In Case of Emergencies
There are two ways Active Track deals with emergencies:
Known Emergency
This is when the lone worker faces an emergency during the job and requires
immediate help for the same. They can get help by pressing the panic alarm on
Active Track. You can configure this button to send a text message to a pre-
designated number, which can also include the latest location.
Unknown Emergency
Unfortunately, even after all precautions, emergencies can creep up unexpectedly.
Active Track has an in-built accelerometer with the ability to pre-programme
parameters. This feature will automatically send an alert when the device exits those
parameters for a long time.
Example: Set the active parameters to when the device is vertical and the time as
10 minutes. If the lone worker falls and cannot reach the device to send an alarm,
the device will detect that it is horizontal and automatically send an alarm after
10 minutes.
These are just a few benefits Active Track provides to ensure the safety of lone
workers. It also integrates with Active View, the software used for real-time
monitoring of Active track devices.
