JLS Automation started in 1955 as JL Souser, a 
manufacturers’ representative firm that handled power 
transmission equipment. When founder Joseph L. Souser 
passed in 1978, his wife Polly incorporated the business as 
J.L Souser & Associates, Inc. (JLS). Shortly after, Joe and 
Polly’s son Craig Souser started leading sales, and 
expanded the product range to include variable frequency 
drives and started providing application engineering 
assistance.
