Solution 1: Restoring the backup company file in QB
Retrieving the backup company file is used to create a new company file. If the 
backup file is saved on an external device, copy & paste it to the local hard drive.
• Now, in the QB application, move to the File menu & choose Open or Restore 
Company.
• Then, click on Next after selecting Restore a backup copy.
• Your company file looks like [Your company name].qbb. Browse for it in your 
system.
• Then, choose a folder to store the restore file & click Open.
• Lastly, click on Save. 
If this solution does not work for you or you get an error while retrieving the backup, 
move to solution 2.
Solution 2: Verify if your system is not hosting
In the QB Desktop, click on the File tab & then select the Utilities Option.
• Now, in case the option Stop Hosting Multi-User Access is chosen, then click 
Stop in the option disable the option.
• Then, Click on Yes to exit from the company file window.
• Afterward, double-check if the company file path is not more than 210 
characters.
• Now, in the location of your company file, go to the address bar & copy the 
path.
• Proceed further & paste it to a notepad to count the characters.
• At last, try to retrieve the company file again.
Solution 3: Take advantage of QB File Doctor 
• If you do not have QB Tool Hub installed in your system, then download it & 
save the QuickBooksToolHub.exe in the system.
• Now, after installing the QB Tool Hub, double-click on its icon to open it.
• Then, go to the Company File Issues.
• Post that, choose the option Run QuickBooks File Doctor.
• Then, choose the respective company file with the issue.
• Now, choose the middle option saying Check Your File & click Continue.
• Lastly, punch in your Admin Password & choose Next.
Solution 4: Give new names to the .ND and .TLG files
In order to get access to the company file in QB, these two files play a major role 
as these are the configuration files. If any one or both files get damaged, the 
original company file won't open. So, to solve it, you must change the names of 
both files.
• Firstly, open the folder having the company file.
• Then, select the files having the same name as the original company file but 
with .ND & .TLG extensions.
• Subsequently, by right-clicking on each file, click on the option Rename & add 
OLD in the end. 
• Now, at last, launch your QB application.
