What exactly affects women’s mental
health?
Experiencing physical or sexual abuse can get a long term
impact on their mental health, leaving a mark very difficult
to erase. To be in poverty can also be adding to mental
health problems.
Women are more likely to experience post-traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD), and they wait much longer than men after
symptoms arise to seek diagnosis and treatment. The
office of women’s health reported that women on an
average waits for about four years after the onset of PTSD
symptoms before seeking help.
Eating disorders impacts on women more than it
does on men. Eating disorders represents
mental health issue. More than half of
individuals who develop eating disorders are
women or girls. Low self esteem issues or feeling
the pressure to lose weight are often reported as
one of the factors in patients having eating
disorders as well.
