SEABIRDS POOP MID-AIR: STUDY REVEALS
UNIQUE AERIAL DEFECATION
A study published in Current Biology reveals that streaked
shearwaters consistently defecate mid-air at regular
intervals (4-10 minutes). Researchers, using belly-mounted
cameras on birds on Funakoshi Ohshima, Japan, initially
studying leg movements, unexpectedly documented this
behavior. This unique observation of seabird excretion at sea
could provide insights into nutrient cycling in coastal waters
and avian influenza transmission among seabirds. The
researchers suggest that similar fl ight patterns in other
seabirds might exhibit this aerial defecation.

SYRACUSE NAMES ANGELI STARTING QUARTE
RBACK
Syracuse named Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli their
starting quarterback. He beat out LSU transfer Rickie Collins
for the position. Angeli will make his debut against No. 24
Tennessee in Atlanta. The redshirt junior brings experience
from 21 games at Notre Dame, including a start in the Sun
Bowl. Syracuse, coming off a 10-3 season and leading the
nation in passing offense, hopes Angeli can continue their
offensive success. He'll face his former team, Notre Dame,
later in the season.
