Laminar Flow Cabinets
Laminar air flow cabinets (also known as laminar clean bench, laminar flow
hood, laminar air flow bench) provide an aseptic space to work with a product or
specimen, without contaminating it with particulates such as microorganisms.
Air is drawn through a HEPA filter in the laminar flow equipment and blown in
a smooth laminar flow towards the user. Hence the name, laminar flow hood
(laminar clean bench, laminar air flow chamber, laminar hood etc).
Laminar flow cabinets are used in environments where sample protection is
critical, as airflow is directed out of the cabinet. For user protection, where
chemically hazardous or infectious materials are going to be used in the laminar
flow equipment, a biological safety cabinet is required.
Kewaunee’s Interceptor is a vertical laminar air flow cabinet widely used in
many laboratories across the world. The Interceptor laminar flow cabinet comes
in a variety of sizes. The laminar air flow cabinet also has a touch screen interface
for ease of operations and safety.

Our History
In the early 1900s, Europe, and particularly Germany, led the laboratory
equipment and furniture market in the United States. A handful of investors,
wanting to change the situation, gathered in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, USA. The
group was small. But the vision was big.
A vision to “to build a superior line of laboratory furniture, the best that can
be built”.
In 1906, the vision translated into Kewaunee Manufacturing Company with
an 18-member team. After World War I, the American scientific industry
began to gain ground, and Kewaunee grew rapidly. By the end of the 1920s,
Kewaunee was building both steel and wood laboratory furniture and
accessories. Kewaunee’s association with the organisations and institutions in
the USA grew stronger. During World War II, Kewaunee was a government
contractor for the Air Corps and an important supplier for the Manhattan
Project.
