Vibratory finishing machines are Deburring machines that eliminate ease sharp edges so that the worker can handle them without the possibility of getting cut or injured because of it. Additionally, a deburring machine also helps to maintain the safety of other important machines.

Ceramic Media for Vibratory Finishing
Machines
Vibratory tumbler is a deburring machine used for cleaning,
polishing and deburring. This ceramic media is available in
amass-finishing products. Ceramic media is used in these
vibratory tumblers to fill the bowl and is basically a type of
abrasive material range of sizes, materials and shapes and is
used for various purposes. Before using any type of ceramic
media, a selection process takes place based on certain
characteristics of the media such as what are the operations
required for finishing or deburring activity.
One of the most commonly used such machines is vibratory
deburring machine, also known as vibratory tumbler. The dirty
parts which need to be worked upon are placed inside a large
drum which is part of the machine. This drum then undergoes
circular motion to generate vibrations to mix the content
inside. Meanwhile, a friction generates between the ceramic
media and the dirty parts which eventually cleans them.
In terms of size, a larger size of media is employed for parts of
larger size owing to their capability to cut at a rapid pace
creating coarse surfaces. On the other hand, smaller sized
parts demand smaller media to obtain a better finish.
To make the selection easy, in general a thumb rule is
followed which says that the select a media whose size is
equal to 70% of the size of the slot so that no two pieces get
stuck in a hole.
Besides the size, ceramic media comes in varied shapes such
as stars, cones, spheres, pyramids, wedges and ovals. The
abrasive media is available in a variety of materials. Some
prominent types are:
PLASTIC MEDIA:
This type is used to obtain a smooth finish. Aluminum, copper and
brass are some of the soft metals on which plastic media is used.
CERAMIC MEDIA:
Unlike the plastic media, ceramic media is used for hard metals
which require heavy cutting. Along with these metals, ceramic
media is also used for plastic parts.
ORGANIC MEDIA:
As the name suggests this media is made of organic materials
such as corn cob and walnut shells, generally used for light
deburring activities.
STEEL MEDIA:
Used for heavy shining, deburring and polishing activities,
using steel media generally demands a second polishing
step.
PORCELAIN MEDIA:
In the absence of any abrasive power, this media is used
only for polishing.
WET TUMBLING COMPOUNDS:
Sometimes, wet compounds are used when mixed with
tumbling media to provide the materials protection from
rust and corrosion.
