How To Install Snow Guards On Roof
How Do You Put Snow Guards On A Metal Roof? Undoubtedly, experiencing snow is a beautiful and exciting part of everybody’s life. Even when you live in an area that gets a significant amount of snow each year, its annual appearance is something you anticipate and enjoy. Indeed, one of the typical winter wonderland aesthetic's mainstays has always been the picture of snow- topped roofs. However, apart from its awe-inspiring beauty, snow brings many challenges. Its accumulation on the metal roof may cause a sudden sliding, which can be hazardous. With the intent to avoid such instances, it’s imperative to take precautions that prevent its pleasant appearance from transforming into a winter catastrophe. One of the best preventions you can take is installing snow guards on your metal roof. What Is A Snow Guard? Snow guards are snow and ice retention devices for pitched metal roofs that cause any accumulated snow or ice to melt or fall off the roof in small pieces instead of a sudden, unexpected roof avalanche. These guards are like corrals that attach to the roof edge and can be small, strategically staggered triangular spikes that adhere easily to a metal roof with strong adhesive. Installing snow guards is a straightforward process. However, many roofing companies in Pasadena consider professional assistance for their installation. But a dedicated DIYer with secure scaffolding may feasibly accomplish this task. Let’s begin to commence the installation process. How To Install Snow Guards? Here we have enlisted a few things you will need during installation: Pencil Work gloves Isopropyl alcohol wipes Latex gloves Clear roofing adhesive Note: consider working on a dry day, as adhesive won’t stick well to a damp roof. You can also call a professional roof contractor in Long Beach to get this work done if you aren’t comfortable doing this. 1 Place a mark 6 inches up from the lower edge of the roof and 6 inches in from one side using a pencil. As you travel across the length of the eave, continue to draw markings 6 inches above the lower edge, 24 inches apart. 2 Make a second row of markings 12 inches from the roof’s lower edge. Instead of 6, make the first mark 12 inches from the side and maintain a distance of 24 inches between the markings. So they're staggered with the first row of marks. 3 Wear protective work gloves and clean the area around each mark using isopropyl alcohol wipes. Since pencil marks get rubbed while cleaning, make new marks on the cleaned areas. Now, take off the work gloves and wear thick latex gloves. 4 Apply clear roofing adhesive to the bottom of the first snow guard and cover the entire bottom with adhesive. Now, press the snow guard's glued end against the initial mark on the roof until the adhesive seeps out from below. Place the guard so that the vertical edge faces the upward slope of your roof. Wipe the extra glue from the guard. 5 Apply adhesive to another snow guard spike and attach the guard to the roof using a staggered pencil mark as a reference. Now, continue attaching the snow guard along the staggered rows on the roof in this manner. Manufacturers suggest installing snow guards above entryways to prevent the risk of roof collapse in places that receive extensive snow. *****************************Source***************************** https://www.merchantcircle.com/blogs/olympus-roofing-specialist-south-pasadena-ca/2022/7/ How-Do-You-Put-Snow-Guards-On-A-Metal-Roof-/2272019
