RULES?
When you have a service dog, you
get various rights that enable you to
fly with it, without any legal issue. In
a recent time, Service Animal
Travel rules have been changed.
Now, you will have to travel with your
service animal by following new rules
which are mentioned below:
• You can’t consider your
emotional support animal
as the service animal.
Now, your service dog will
be treated differently from
an emotional support dog,
while traveling on a plane.
• Under new rules, airlines
will treat psychiatric
service animals the same
as other service animals.
• As in the past, the
airlines will not take any
decision solely based on
the service animal’s
breed.
• Allows airlines to require
that service animals
should be leashed,
harnessed, or tethered at
all times.
• You have to define your service
animal as a dog that is trained to
do specific works or tasks for the
benefit of an individual with a
disability.
• Continues to allow planes to
prohibit transportation to service
animals that show aggressive
behavior and that pose a threat
to the safety of other passengers.
• Airlines are allowed to limit
the number of service animals
traveling with a single person
to two service animals.
• Prohibits plans from requiring
travelers with a service dog to
physically check-in at the
airport instead of using the
online process.
You can contact the PDSC professionals for
more information regarding emotional
support and service animals. Here, you can
also ask for ESA letters which are required
for traveling with your animals or you can
search as “How to get emotional
support animal letter” and you will find
numerous options for issuing an ESA letter.
