There are many envelopes available. Here is a guide to help you choose the right envelope for your
purpose.
Envelopes Weights
Envelopes come in a variety of weights/thicknesses. They
are measured in grams per square inch (GSM). The same
applies to paper: the heavier the envelope, the thicker it will
be.
Types of Envelopes
Gummed - Traditional "Lick and Stick", envelopes that
require you to moisten adhesive on flaps of envelopes
before sealing and pressing.
o Self Seal
o Press Seal- Fold the flap over the envelopes, and press to
seal
o Seal & Peal - This is similar to Press Seal, but first you
need to remove a strip of plastic to expose the bonding
glue. Then fold over the flap and press down to seal.
o Plain - These envelopes can be used if you want to
create a more personal correspondence. They do not
have windows and must still include your address. You
can also print directly on the envelope.
o Windowed- Windowed envelopes have a small
transparent plastic film at the front that displays the
printed address inside.
o Manilla/White: Most envelopes are available in either
white or manila. Manilla is the most traditional style of
envelope available.
Board-Backed - This board is placed inside the envelope
to protect import documents. Perfect solution for
sending photos.
o Padded - These envelopes provide more protection than
standard ones and are ideal for sending large or small
items. Padded envelopes are strong and tear-resistant.
They can be used for heavy or bulky items, as well as fragile
items like CD/DVDs. Many of our padded envelopes can
withstand weather.
o Recycled: If you are concerned about the impact that
envelopes and other paper products have on the
environment, you don't have to worry. Many envelopes
now contain recycled content. They indicate the percentage
of recycled content for each grade, which can be 100%
recycled paper, 50% recycled or over 50% recycled.
It is possible to also see environmental information,
including whether it has been sourced from FSC.
