Refractory materials have the property of porosity that create a porous space that allows the 
gases to spread inside for better working. If there are no porous, then problems will be created.  
5) Expansion and Contraction- 
Refractory Materials have the property of considerate expansion and contraction during the 
process of melting. The furnace lining materials keep moving, so there is a need for a material 
that keeps adjusting itself and is flexible as per the changing situations during the melting 
process. Refractory materials are flexible and adapt as per the expansions and contractions. 
6) Low Cost-
