Chalcocite (Cu₂S) is a significant copper ore with widespread applications in electrical wiring, electronics, and industrial metallurgy. Leading producers include Chile, Peru, and the USA. Global production has grown steadily, reaching around 1.2–1.3 million tons of copper content annually. Production growth over the last decade averaged 3–4% per year, supported by increasing global demand for copper in electronics, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects. Copper market prices, heavily influenced by chalcocite production, have shown significant volatility. From 2015–2024, copper prices ranged between $5,000–$10,000 per ton, driven by supply-demand imbalances, geopolitical factors, and shifts in industrial consumption.
