Hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) represent the new generation of low-GWP refrigerants and foam blowing agents, offering an eco-friendly alternative to HFCs. Production in 2025 is growing rapidly due to the global push to phase down high-GWP chemicals under climate agreements. Major chemical companies have expanded HFO output through joint ventures and investments in large-scale production plants, especially in North America and China. In terms of pricing, HFOs are considerably more expensive than traditional blowing agents. Throughout 2025, prices have remained high, driven by limited global capacity and strong demand in HVAC and insulation applications. Some regional relief is expected as new facilities come online, but overall, tight supply conditions persist.
