Hydrotreated light distillates (HLDs) are refined products derived through hydrotreating processes, removing sulfur and other impurities from lighter fractions of crude oil. They serve as blending components in clean transportation fuels or even as feedstock for petrochemical crackers. The production of HLDs has expanded steadily in line with tightening fuel sulfur regulations, most notably the IMO 2020 sulfur cap, and continued global emphasis on cleaner fuels. Refiners in Asia and North America have invested in upgrading hydrotreating units, increasing HLD production capacity to meet stricter specifications and reduce sulfur content below 10 ppm.
