The Pumice (Volcanic Silicate) market, historically dominated by the construction aggregates and lightweight concrete industries, has evolved into a more industrialized segment due to rising consumption in abrasive media manufacturing, water filtration beds, pozzolanic cement blending, horticultural soil aeration additives, and cosmetic-grade fine pumice powder for exfoliation products. In 2024, global Pumice production volume was estimated at 21 to 23 million metric tons, led by Turkey, Italy, Greece, the United States (notably deposits in Oregon and California), and Indonesia. Turkey remained the dominant exporter, accounting for nearly 35% of seaborne Pumice trade, supported by favorable quarry logistics and proximity to major Mediterranean shipping routes. Pricing trends in Q4 2024 indicated raw construction-grade Pumice trading between $45 and $60 per metric ton (FOB origin), depending on grain uniformity and volcanic silica quality. Crushed horticultural-grade Pumice granules, optimized for moisture retention and root oxygenation in greenhouse operations, were priced in the $85 to $110/MT bracket. Meanwhile, finely milled pumice powder for cosmetic and industrial abrasive use commanded higher values between $180 and $220/MT, particularly from EU-certified processors with micro-particle consistency under 150 microns. The Pumice Price Index registered a 3.9% year-on-year increase, reflecting freight adjustments and stable but slightly rising global consumption patterns.
