Rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes are widely used for stacking containers in yard blocks, prized for their mobility and flexible deployment. Production has grown in line with container terminal development, but the technology itself is undergoing a significant shift toward electrification and automation. Many RTGs historically used diesel gensets; now, hybrid, fully electric (eRTG), and battery-assisted variants are gaining share as ports pursue decarbonization and lower operating costs. OEMs and retrofit specialists produce both newbuild eRTGs and conversion kits for existing fleets, expanding overall production volumes.
