BC Parks has issued a new advisory for Garibaldi Provincial Park, reminding people about winter
conditions across the park.
BC Parks reminds those going to Garibaldi Provincial Park to have appropriate equipment,
experience, and training for winter travel. Microspikes, snowshoes, or backcountry skiing
equipment are strongly recommended. Visitors should bring and know how to use an avalanche
transceiver, probe, and shovel. It is recommended that visitors take a formal avalanche training
course before visiting the Park during winter months. Use at your own risk.
Popular backcountry ski touring areas include the Garibaldi Neve Traverse, Singing Pass, and the
Spearhead-Fitzsimmons Traverse.
However, BC Parks reminds these trips require advanced skills, planning, and good weather
conditions. Before travel, consider parking, access to trailheads and lifts, backcountry access
routes, required safety equipment, training, and trip planning. Visitors tenting in the Wilderness
Zone require a wilderness camping permit.
Skiers and snowboarders re-entering Whistler Blackcomb ski area boundaries from the
backcountry should check in with patrol (604-905-2324) for up-to-date avalanche conditions and
terrain closures.
