Tips for choosing
dynamic
balancing
Dynamic balancing valve has an internal membrane
capable of automatically adapting to the present
conditions - similar to the operation of the expansion
tank, which manages system changes by working on the
membrane that expands or does not.
Dynamic balancing valves are provided above all where
there are terminals such as fan coils, ceiling boxes, or
utilities that would be affected by yield variations in flow
rate. Often they are also used as zone valves.
Static balance
Static balancing valves define a valve duty point, the
maximum flow rate that the valve must maintain when
the system is running, based on a defined differential
pressure value at the valve.
When should hydraulic balancing be carried out? The ideal
would be to do this in all users, large and small, even if the
problems that may arise from the lack of balance are usually
accused more by condominiums than single-family users.
In recent years, the biggest problems that have been
encountered have been linked to redevelopment, with the
obligation to install thermostatic heads in large condominiums.
With thermostatic valves, less flow to smaller radiators. The
radiator valve with pre-regulation was created to carry out these
balancing operations on the heating body more specifically.
How balancing works
The balancing valves are divided into flow balancing
valves; differential pressure control valves. In turn,
balancing the flow rates can occur in a "static" or
"dynamic" way. The pre-regulation is set on the valve,
according to the parameters defined upstream by the
thermomechanical designer, who establishes the
necessary flow rates based on the users, always with a
view to energy saving.
After making the mapping, the designer defines the
preset value, determining the flow rate inside the single
radiator. If this mapping is available, the installer only
has to follow and set this value, which is set directly on
the valve. However, these are very simple devices, even
in the absence of mapping.
From the leaf to the trunk
From the level of the radiator - which is the terminal
part of the system, like the leaf for the tree - the
same concept can be transferred to the whole
system: the radiators are balanced at the level of the
single apartment, but if you move one level and if you
consider the entire condominium it is clear that if a
system is balanced in apartment A, it must be
expected that it is balanced also in apartment B - vice
versa, the problems of "unbalancing" affect the latter.
At this point, even the distribution branches that go to
the individual users need balancing. If there are two
apartments with radiators already balanced in the
case of a small condominium or a one-two-family
house, the riser will also be balanced.
It is useful to balance risers not only to
optimize the system but also because
balancing valves can perform additional
functions, usually entrusted to additional
components on the system. It allows
intercepting the branch or column,
without the need to install the classic
shut-off ball valve upstream or
downstream.
In addition, equipped with a loading and
unloading cock, in case of maintenance,
it allows to intercept the single branch,
unload that part of the system and, once
the work has been carried out, return to
load the system, without intervening on
the remaining part of the system.
• How to set the preset value
An adjustment scale characterizes the
balancing valves. Usually, it is the designer
who, upstream, evaluates the balancing on
the single branches and the single risers and
gives the installer the presetting value that he
has to set on the handwheel. The valves have
a handwheel with a number gradation. Many
of these valves also have the possibility of
being blocked and sealed. In this case you
should contact Dynamic Balancing Denver.
