Our Story
Magical, raw, expansive and ever so slightly remote … Fortress is the stuff of 
legends. Perched high in the Canadian Rockies, Fortress Mountain Resort is located 
just over one hour west of Calgary, Alberta. 
With 750cm (300 inches) of average annual snowfall, wind-protected slopes, 
incredible tree skiing, and up to 2000+ acres of stunning terrain, Fortress is a 
bastion of the authentic Canadian ski experience.  When we first embarked on the 
mission to redevelop this truly phenomenal ski area, we thought we were in the 
skiing business. Due to a series of coincidences, some scientific curiosity and a huge 
stroke of luck changed everything for us: A rock glacier was discovered on our 
lease. This hidden away, ultra-pure resource has been the source of our potable 
water supply since 1968. We successfully changed a portion of our existing water 
licences to allow for the sale of less than 3% of the flow of this un-named, non-fish 
bearing stream. While that's a tiny amount of water in the overall picture, it 
amounts to 50,000,000 litres per year that we are now permitted to sell. 
This is the only rock glacier water available to purchase anywhere on Earth. 
We have perseverance, imagination, curiosity and a world-class team of passionate 
leaders assembled. We're a successful business because we are all doing something 
that is aligned with who we are at the highest level. It feels right. It feels good.
