Gourahari  das i s  an imaginat ive essayist ,  wr i ter  and an academic ian.Born 
in  1960,  in  a  back of  the past  town in the region of  bhadrak (prev iously  a  
p iece of  balasore)  of  state odisha in india ,  gourahar i  grew up wi th sharp 
eyes of  percept ion and reasonableness which formed his  imaginat ive be ing.
Fakir  mohan senapat i   often referred to  as utkala byasa kabi  (odisha 's  
vyasa) ,  was an ind ian wr i ter ,  poet ,  phi losopher  and socia l  re former.  He 
played a leading role  in  establ ish ing the dist inct  ident i ty  of  odia ,  a  language 
mainly  spoken in the indian state of  odisha.  Senapat i  is  regarded as the 
father  of  odia  nat iona l ism and modern odia  l i terature.  
Born to lakhmana charana senapat i  and tu las i  dev i  senapat i  in  a  middle  
c lass khandayat fami ly.  When he was one and hal f  year  o ld h is  father  d ied.  
After  fourteen months h is  mother  a lso died.  S ince chi ldhood he was taken 
care of  by h is  grand mother.Senapat i ' s  uncle  was jea lous of  young fak ir  
mohan and did not  a l low his  educat ion.  His  weak hea lth a lso contr ibuted to 
h im being a  late learner.  He pa id towards h is  educat ional  expenses by 
work ing as a chi ld labourer.Senapat i  dedicated his  l i fe  to the progress of  
odia  language in the later  19th and ear ly  20th century.  He is  ca l led the 
father  of  odia  fi ct ion.  At  h is  nat ive place,  school ,  col leges and univers i t ies  
are constructed in h is  memory l ike faki r  mohan col lege and fakir  mohan 
univers i ty.
