As an ingredient of all washing powders, optical 
brighteners are additive dyestuff absorbed by textile 
fibres from solution but not subsequently removed in 
rinsing. 
Optical brightening agents are additives which are used 
in the paper industries to enhance whitening effects of 
papers. These chemical compounds absorb light in the 
ultraviolet and violet region (usually 340-370nm) and re-
emit light in the blue region
