A digital signature is a mathematical scheme for verifying the authenticity and integrity of digital messages or documents. It serves as a digital equivalent of a handwritten signature or a stamped seal but offers far more security. Digital signature are based on public key cryptography, also known as asymmetric cryptography, which involves a pair of keys: a private key and a public key.
