As Founder & CEO of The Language 
Conservancy (TLC), he has grown a 
network of over a dozen related 
organizations that work to support 
endangered languages and build 
linguistic capacity & infrastructure.

he established The Language 
Conservancy (TLC) and currently

Wilhelm Meya was born in 
Vienna, Austria and spent 
much of his childhood in 
Connecticut. He is the 
Founder & CEO of The C 
(TLC) which, since 2005, has 
grown to serve as an official 
consultive entity for the 
United Nations.

Wilhelm Meya is known globally for 
raising awareness of language 
extinction which has become a 
worldwide crisis. Mr. Meya studied 
economics at Franklin & Marshall 
College in Pennsylvania and the 
University of Vienna before 
discovering his interest in Indigenous 
issues while traveling in Central 
America.

Awareness
Wilhelm K. Meya traveled Central 
America during his college years and 
discovered a passion for Indigenous 
advocacy and awareness. He 
graduated Indiana University with an 
M.S. of Anthropology and established 
The Language Conservancy (TLC) in 
2005. Mr. Meya forged collaborations 
and alliances between his organization 
and educational institutions to meet his 
end goals—preserving and protecting 
endangered Indigenous languages.
