As cars have proliferated into most households, Indian cities face an impending parking space crisis. Generally, cars are kept parked for major portions of the day - whether at home, the office or on the road. The scenario is such that the number of cars on the road is growing exponentially with space becoming more valuable every day. WPS’ parking systems offer a sound, efficient and logical solution to this. Wohr has been operating with a single-minded focus on developing automated parking systems that allay parking woes across the world for more than 6 decades now. With the first hydraulic car parking system built in 1959 and the more recent underground cross parking and turntable, Wohr has been on a journey of persistent innovation and customization to solve a variety of parking problems. Wohr’s presence in India is as Wohr Parking Systems Pvt. Ltd. (WPS) - a joint venture between WÖHR Autopark systeme GmbH and Vyas Group. CURRENT SCENARIO
India’s towns and cities are only getting more crowded and congested,
with the number of vehicles growing exponentially and the availability
of parking spaces not keeping pace, we are looking at an urban crisis.
The lack of parking spaces leads to roads getting obstructed, traffic
flow getting hampered, increase in the probability of accidents. It also
leads to a waste of time, energy and fuel leading to a rise in pollution
as well.
Multilevel Car Parking provides a feasible and productive solution.
WHAT ARE MULTILEVEL PARKING SYSTEMS?
Multilevel car parking systems are manual or automatic facilities that make use of vertical
rather than horizontal space for the parking of vehicles. These systems can house multiple cars
on every level thus enabling optimum utilization of precious space.
Multilevel car parking comes with more advantages. It offers low maintenance and low
operational and construction costs. Automatic parking systems offer more safety for both the
driver and vehicle than typical parking lots. Multilevel parking systems also save valuable urban
space for landscaping, amenities or other useful purposes.
The shortage of parking space is a long-running issue, with the first multilevel car parking system
being built a long time back in 1918 in Chicago, USA.
WOHR’S RANGE OF MULTILEVEL PARKING SYSTEMS
Wohr has a wide range of offerings in multilevel car parking. All of Wohr’s products are
multilevel parking systems - with a couple of exceptions.
These systems can be divided into 3 types:
1. STACK PARKING:
Stack parking systems are a type of parking system that stack more than a single vehicle in a
single parking space. Stack parking systems can double or multiply the parking spaces available
and is one of the leading parking technologies available today.
Stack Parking Systems can be segregated into 2 further types -
Dependent parking systems are ones in which the lower platform has to be emptied first in
order to let the platform descend.
Independent parking systems are those that are independent of either platform for accessing
and removing vehicles.

2. TOWER PARKING:
Tower parking systems are a form of automated parking systems that are
mechanically designed to vertically allocate parking spaces, especially in
situations where the available space is very narrow and small. They are also
known as elevator parking systems as they use lifts to reach their various levels.
Tower parking systems use the most compact plot areas; maximizing the parking
spaces available.

3. PUZZLE PARKING:
Puzzle parking systems provide multiple parking spaces on levels - Upper & Lower.
These levels are capable of moving horizontally or vertically in the form of a ‘Puzzle’ -
automatically parking a vehicle in a vacant spot. These systems are independent in
nature - meaning that any car can be parked or retrieved without having to vacate
another parking space.
These parking systems utilize hydraulic parking systems to move the ‘pallets’ vertically
and horizontally - depending on the available parking spots. It is a fully
automatic parking system in which the driver just has to park the vehicle on the lower
platform and vacate the car. The system is designed to be low-maintenance and has
lower operating costs when compared to conventional parking.
ADVANTAGES OF WOHR’S MULTILEVEL PARKING SYSTEMS
• Allow for the optimal utilization of space
• Offer higher cost-efficiency with lower maintenance and operational costs
• Have lower construction costs as they are easier to build and install
• Offer safety and security with no ramps or walkways preventing incidents
of vandalism
