Whether you are someone who has just got their brand new costumes for your nearby dance store or a professional dancer who has seen it all when it comes to washing dancewear, costumes, cheer uniforms or dance shoes. You would have realised taking care of dance wears or costumes can get a bit over the head if not done right. You’ll see yourself dealing with a lot more than a mere fabric cleaning like there can be heavy sequins or rhinestones falling off, colour bleeds, makeup stains, shrinking and a lot more other messes that can make you pull your hair. However, you can save this stress if you are well informed.
Dance Costume Care-Mistakes to avoid
Dance Costume Care-
Mistakes to avoid
Whether you are someone who has just got their brand new costumes for
your nearby dance store or a professional dancer who has seen it all when it
comes to washing dancewear, costumes, cheer uniforms or dance shoes. You
would have realised taking care of dance wears or costumes can get a bit
over the head if not done right. You’ll see yourself dealing with a lot more
than a mere fabric cleaning like there can be heavy sequins or rhinestones
falling off, colour bleeds, makeup stains, shrinking and a lot more other
messes that can make you pull your hair. However, you can save this stress if
you are well informed.
Don’t be afraid to wash your costumes
The best thing you can do to save your dance costume is to wash it right.
There can be various residues from make-up stains, chemicals, hairsprays
and other dirt that can get caught on dance wear-causing untimely wear and
tears eventually damaging the whole costume. Make sure to understand your
dance fabrics and don’t be afraid to launder them to keep them safe and
damage-free.
Don’t dry clean your dance costumes
While passing the dirty laundry to dry cleaners may seem like good riddance
of heavy chores off your shoulder, we say it’s smart to drop this idea when it
comes to your dance costumes. The harsh chemicals used during dry
cleaning can eventually damage the technical feature of your dancewear and
also spoil its certain other elements like sequins, fabrics shine, spangles and
foil finishes. This can make your precious dance wear dull and even because
irreparable damages cost you quite a price. Instead, hand wash your dance
costumes to save them intact for longer years.
Don’t use hot water, wring or soak your costumes
Another tip to save your costume from damages is to avoid using hot water
instead use cold water to avoid colour bleeding, also never leave your
dancewear soaked unattended and wrong during the wash. Do not rub or be
aggressive with the fabrics and always wash your dance costumes inside–out
to avoid potential fallout of sequins or rhinestones or fittings. Use cold water
instead to save the bleeding and mix the light colour of your dancewear with
the lighter ones.
Don’t put your dance costume into dryers
Putting your dance clothes in the dryers is one worst thing that can damage your
precious dancewear. Especially when it comes to stretchy spandex kinds of
costumes, the heat from the dryer can shrink the whole dress. Instead, try hanging
your costumes after washing to get them dried. But when you do make sure to blot
the dripping water with a towel to avoid colour bleeds before hanging it to dry.
Thank you !
